Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy confidential?

In almost every instance, therapy is absolutely confidential. You therapist is required to maintain confidentiality about everything said in sessions between the two of you, just like a doctor is required to keep your records private.
There are a few situations that may require a therapist to break confidentiality:

  • You are a danger to yourself and threaten to harm yourself (e.g., suicidal).
  • You threaten to harm another specific person (e.g., assault, kill).
  • When a patient or someone else's report leads us to suspect past or present abuse or neglect of children or older adults (aged 65-years old or older), or dependent adults (in conservatorship) - A report will be made to the proper authorities, including Child Protective Services, Adult Protective Services, and law enforcement, as applicable.
Can I afford Therapy?

Therapy is very expensive when it's a raw price but a lot of therapists offer sliding scale. However, if our pricing doesn't meet your budget, there are countless resources available at little to no cost to you. Most health insurances cover mental health treatment which therapy falls under that umbrella.

How does COVID-19 impact a provision of therapy.

There's a pro and a con. Let's start with the con. The bad part is with COVID-19 mandates, a lot of US are not able to go face to face with you in an office and a secure location like we would typically pre-COVID times. The positive is that because we are doing it remotely, we're way more available and flexible.

The stigma about receiving Mental Health help.

Going to therapy is "craziness" prevention which means that all of us can use it – therapists included. I'm not here to judge you but I'm here to understand you. I'll teach you the same in the meantime, so let's learn how to listen to understand instead of listening to defend.
